Uttarakhand IAS Association has addressed Ex-CM’s remarks, it also plans to submit a memorandum to CM Dhami.
The Uttarakhand IAS Association has expressed concern over remarks made by MP and former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat about an IAS officer. In response, the association has passed a resolution and announced its intention to present a memorandum to Chief Minister Dhami.
The controversy began when Rawat, representing Haridwar in Parliament, raised concerns about alleged illegal mining in districts such as Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, and Nainital. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, he claimed that illegal mining activities were rampant, particularly at night. However, Mining Secretary Brijesh Sant dismissed these allegations as “baseless” and “false,” citing data that showed an increase in mining revenue.
Rawat later responded to the mining secretary’s denial with the remark, “A lion doesn’t hunt dogs,” which drew criticism from the IAS Association. The association held a meeting on Sunday, during which it emphasized the importance of dignity and self-respect for its members. It warned that such comments could demoralize civil servants and impact their efficiency. The association urged individuals and organizations to avoid making statements that could harm the self-respect of its members and their families.
The IAS Association also highlighted the role of civil servants in implementing government policies within a constitutional framework and stressed the need for respect towards the administrative machinery. It reiterated the principles of neutrality and anonymity in governance and called for society to uphold the dignity of public servants.
To address the issue, the association plans to submit a memorandum to both the Chief Minister and the Chief Secretary, seeking measures to protect the dignity of its members. This incident underscores the growing tension between political leaders and the civil services in Uttarakhand, leaving the government’s response eagerly anticipated.
