Soon after the UP DGP Javeed Ahmed issued a set of guidelines to his officers on the functioning of the force’s ‘Anti-Romeo’ squad — a BJP poll manifesto promise, Uttar Pradesh police has come into action. Anti-Romeo squad is making surprise checking at all such places where this kind of unwanted elements can gather. Talking to NBSB, DGP PRO, Mr. Rahul Srivastava cleared that ”As per DGP order various teams have been set up, telephonic instructions have been given and DGP has also tweeted about this and the basic thrust is his tweet. The purpose of this initiative is to prevent molestations, eve teasing”
But He added “No private person is allowed to do this thing on his own, this activity will be done by police only. If any private person does this kind of activity, action will be taken against him and even if any policeman harrass anybody unnecessarily, he will also be punished”
There are mixed reactions from people on this anti romeo squad but its creating lots of buzz in common people of Utttar Pradesh nowadays.
