Major overhaul in Income Tax Department in UP witnesses transfer of Meeta Singh and Debjyothi Das from key posts in Lucknow.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has initiated a major reshuffle in the Income Tax Department, transferring several senior officers from critical roles as part of a broader strategy to strengthen administrative operations and field-level efficiency.
According to Office Order No. 105 of 2025, significant changes have been made within the cadre of Principal Commissioners and Principal Directors of Income Tax. Key movements include:
-
Meeta Singh, a 1993-batch IRS (IT) officer and Principal Director of Income Tax (PDIT), Lucknow, has been transferred from her current post.
-
Debjyothi Das, a 1990-batch IRS (IT) officer and Director General of Investigation, Lucknow, has also been reassigned.
Their replacements have already been announced:
-
Ajay Atri, a senior IRS officer, will assume charge as the new Director General of Investigation, Lucknow.
-
Ramankant Garg has been appointed as the new Principal Director of Income Tax (Investigation), Lucknow.
In a separate directive—Office Order No. 106 of 2025—the CBDT has issued additional transfer and posting orders at the Commissioner and Director levels.
Furthermore, under Office Order No. 104 of 2025, appointments and transfers have been announced for Chief Commissioners and Director Generals of Income Tax, signaling a broader reshuffle of leadership across various zones.
This large-scale restructuring aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to boost transparency, accountability, and performance across the Income Tax framework, particularly in investigative and enforcement arms.
