UP DPC Meeting Approves Promotion of 27 PCS Officers to IAS Cadre; Centre Allocates ₹236 Crore for Home Guard Reimbursement
A key meeting of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) was held in Delhi to facilitate the promotion of Uttar Pradesh’s 2008 and 2010 batch PCS officers to the IAS cadre. The meeting, attended by officials from the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), the Central Government, and senior state officials, including Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister SP Goyal, deliberated on the promotion of 27 PCS officers.
The number of promotions is limited to 27 due to the existing vacancies in the IAS cadre in Uttar Pradesh. Barring any pending investigations, most of the 2008 batch and a few from the 2010 batch are expected to be promoted soon.
Meanwhile, the Central Government has approved a reimbursement of ₹236.31 crore to Uttar Pradesh’s Home Guard Department. This funding addresses long-pending reimbursements, covering 25% of total expenses, including duty allowances, salaries, and uniforms for Home Guard volunteers, as well as 50% of costs incurred during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections from 2011 to 2021. The approval comes after years of persistent efforts by the Home Guard Department to recover the outstanding amount.
In a separate development, protests continue across Uttar Pradesh against the privatization of the electricity sector. The Vidyut Karamchari Joint Sangharsh Samiti has organized demonstrations in multiple districts, questioning the need for privatization despite significant improvements in the state’s power infrastructure. Protesters pointed out that Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses in UP have dropped from 40% in 2017 to 16.5% by March 2024, nearing the national benchmark of 15%. A large rally is planned in Lucknow on April 9, where electricity workers will further voice their opposition to the privatization initiative.
