In a significant bureaucratic reshuffle, the Centre has appointed 1999-batch Rajasthan-cadre IAS officer Mugdha Sinha as the new Managing Director of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). This promotion to the Additional Secretary-level position under the Ministry of Tourism marks a key milestone in her central deputation.

A Career Steeped in Culture & Tourism

Sinha, who began her central tenure in September 2022 as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, has been instrumental in shaping India’s tourism policies as Director General (Tourism). Her deep expertise stems from earlier roles in Rajasthan, where she oversaw art, literature, and cultural affairs, earning recognition for her policy vision and administrative leadership.

Part of Larger Bureaucratic Reshuffle

The appointment was announced alongside 14 other IAS transfers by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). With four years left before superannuation, insiders suggest this could pave the way for even greater responsibilities in her career.

Rajasthan Cadre Officers Flock to Centre

Sinha’s move aligns with a growing trend of Rajasthan IAS officers opting for central postings:

  • Prakash Rajpurohit & Ashish Gupta recently joined the Centre

  • Bhanu Prakash Eturu, Ashutosh A.T. Pednekar, and Bhagwati Prasad Kalal are awaiting Joint Secretary-level postings after securing NOCs

Boosting Tourism for Viksit Bharat @2047

Her leadership comes at a crucial juncture as ITDC ramps up efforts under the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision to enhance sustainable tourism and heritage promotion. Sinha’s experience is expected to drive innovative, culturally anchored tourism initiatives nationwide.

With this appointment, the Centre reinforces its focus on experienced administrators steering key infrastructural and cultural projects in the tourism sector.
