Srinagar: Three people, including a teenage girl were killed and five others injured in Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday when the army opened fire at protestors throwing stones at soldiers.
The incident occurred when the army was patrolling the area.
Those who have been killed, have been identified as Shakir Khanday, Irshad Ahmad and Andleeb.
Senior police and army officials have rushed to the area. Internet services were supended in Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama districts after the clash broke out between security forces and stone pelters.
Following the death, protesters blocked roads in different parts of Kashmir and authorities switched off mobile and internet services in the area.
A larger parts of Kashmir under a security blanket as a precautionary measure to maintain peace before the second death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani and a bandh called by separatists. In several areas people have been advised not to leave their home.
