As many as three IAS officer of 1978 batch IAS officer of Secretary level in the Government of India are set to retire in December, 2014. They officers are:
- R. Bhattacharya (IAS, AP:78), Secretary, Human Resources Development.
- Prem Narain (IAS, UP:78), Secretary, Overseas Indian Affairs.
- Ms. Stuti Narain Kacker (IAS, UP:78), Secretary, Social Justice & Empowerment.
