Suspended IAS Officer Abhishek Prakash is now facing chargesheet in the Bribery Case.
Abhishek Prakash, a 2006-batch IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre, has been issued a chargesheet by the Uttar Pradesh Appointments Department. The chargesheet seeks his explanation regarding allegations of bribery, with departmental action to follow based on his response.
Prakash was suspended on March 20 for allegedly demanding a bribe from SAEL, a solar components manufacturing company, in connection with setting up a factory. He is also expected to face action in the Bhatgaon land scam. After his reply to the chargesheet, the department will appoint an inquiry officer, who may be a senior or judicial service officer, to investigate the matter further. Subsequent steps will depend on the findings of the inquiry committee.
Under regulations, the suspension of an IAS officer typically does not exceed six months. Meanwhile, authorities have intensified their investigation into corruption allegations involving Prakash. His close associate, Nikant Jain, is also under scrutiny, with police examining financial transactions linked to Jain’s wife. Documents seized from the offices of Jain and his brother Sukant are being analyzed for additional leads.
The case emerged following a complaint against Prakash during his tenure as CEO of Invest UP. The government initiated an investigation, leading to his suspension. As part of the ongoing probe, police plan to submit a remand application for Nikant Jain on Monday.
