IPS officer Surendra Singh Yadav has been appointed as Deputy Inspector General in BSF. He has been relieved from Chandigarh DGP post.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has appointed 1997-batch IPS officer Surendra Singh Yadav as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Border Security Force (BSF) on a deputation basis. Effective immediately, Yadav has been relieved of his duties as the Director General of Police (DGP) in Chandigarh.
Yadav, who took charge as Chandigarh’s police chief in March 2024, will assume his new role in the BSF before completing a full year in office. Prior to his tenure in Chandigarh, he was promoted to the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) grade in 2022 and held key positions in Delhi, including roles in traffic management, the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW), and the Anti-Corruption Branch.
During his time as DGP, Yadav oversaw an extensive reshuffle within the Chandigarh Police, facilitating the transfer of 2,763 personnel across various ranks, including sub-inspectors, assistant sub-inspectors, head constables, and constables.
Following his departure, 2004-batch IPS officer Raj Kumar Singh from the AGMUT cadre has been appointed as the acting DGP of Chandigarh until further notice. His appointment marks a notable transition in the city’s police leadership.
Interestingly, Yadav’s tenure as Chandigarh’s DGP has been one of the shortest since Kiran Bedi, who was transferred after just 44 days. Yadav served for one year and 14 days before his reassignment.
