Election Commissioner Arun Goel has resigned from his position. Now the ECI has only one member ahead of the general assembly elections of the year 2024.
Out of a sudden, in a shocking move, Arun Goel has resigned from his post as the Election Commissioner of India.
Goel had previously served as Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries and he was scheduled to retire in 2027.
Year 1985 batch senior IAS officer Arun Goel hails from Punjab cadre. His resignation from his designation has come with merely a month to go before the Lok Sabha polls.
Now the constitutional body, responsible for conducting the plebiscite (Election Commission of India) comprises just one member. Year 1984 batch IAS officer Rajiv Kumar is now the only officer working as the Chief Election Commissioner.
