With SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch’s tenure set to end on February 28, 2025, the government has begun the process of selecting her successor.
The Financial Sector Regulatory Appointments Search Committee (FSRASC) is responsible for recommending candidates for the role. While details about the shortlisted candidates and the scheduled meeting on Friday remain undisclosed, the Ministry of Finance has invited applications, with a submission deadline of February 17, 2025.
The new chairperson will be appointed for a maximum term of five years or until reaching the age of 65, whichever comes first. Eligible candidates must be over 50 years old and have at least 25 years of experience in fields such as law, finance, economics, accountancy, or administration.
Madhabi Puri Buch, who became SEBI’s first female chairperson, took office in March 2022. Her tenure saw major regulatory investigations, including the probe into allegations made by U.S. short-seller Hindenburg Research against the Adani Group.
