Bengaluru: Addressing his first of several rallies in the election-bound Karnataka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said at Santhemarahalli of Chamarajanagara district that he sensed a BJP storm in the southern state and that B S Yeddyurappa was the hope of the state’s people.
“In Delhi, we keep getting news of assembly polls in Karnataka. The news says that there is a BJP wave in Karnataka. The reality is, it’s not wave, it’s a storm in Karnataka,” the Prime Minister said.
He attacked the Congress and the Siddaramaiah government and its activities in the state. Calling Congress president Rahul Gandhi as ‘naamdaar’, Modi asked the gathering how the Congress president would know about the efforts of ‘kaamdaars’.
“We are kaamdaars. Our level is not such that we can sit with people like the Congress president, who look down upon us,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister lashed out at Radhul Gandhi for challenging him to sit in the Parliament for 15 minutes while he would be speaking. “The Congress president recently challenged me. He said that if he spoke in the Parliament for 15 minutes, then Modi would not be able to sit at all.” In his typical sarcastic style he said: “Even if he (Rahul Gandhi) speaks for 15 minutes, it would be a big deal.”
Accusing Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi of disrespecting former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, he said, “the former Prime Minister had said he would provide electricity to every village by 2009. What happened to that? In any case, we saw how the Congress treated Dr Manmohan Singh. They tore off ordinances and disrespected him.”
He targeted the Congress for failing to fulfill promises to provide electricity in every household and every village. “There were 39 villages in Karnataka which didn’t have electricity in 2014, but because of our government at the Centre, these villages were electrified. What did the Congress government do for these villages before we came to power at the Centre.”
The Prime Minister also attacked Rahul Gandhi for insulting labourers. “Perhaps due to over excitement, the new-elected Congress president Rahul Gandhi forgets decency. He did not even bother to congratulate the hardworking labourers due to whom India’s villages are getting electricity, Modi said while addressing the rally.
