New Delhi: Prices of petrol and diesel again increased on Monday in the range of 33-34 paise per litre and 25-27 paise per litre respectively across Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai.
On Monday, petrol was retailed at Rs 76.57 per litre in Delhi while diesel retailed at Rs 67.82 per litre, according to Indian Oil Corporation.
Both petrol and diesel retailed at over 5-year high level prices.
In view of the situation, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the government is keeping a close eye on the increase in the fuel price.
Currently, petrol and diesel rates in the country are determined broadly by global crude oil and rupee-dollar forex rate. That is part of a daily system of fuel price revisions adopted in June last year, sources said.
According to observers, this rise in transportation fuel prices can be attributed to the recent surge in global crude oil prices and high excise duty in the country.
Earlier on Sunday, petrol price was retailed at Rs 76.24 per litre and diesel price was recorded at Rs 67.57 per litre.
