PESB: New Leadership for SAIL Steel Plants with Fresh Appointments

PESB has selected new leadership for SAIL Steel Plants with fresh appointments.

In its first meeting with two newly appointed members, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has chosen Surjit Mishra as Director-in-Charge (DIC) of Burnpur & Durgapur Steel Plants, while Chitta Ranjan Mohapatra will take over as DIC of Bhilai Steel Plant.

Chitta Ranjan Mohapatra (Current: ED-Works, Bokaro Steel Plant) → DIC, Bhilai Steel Plant

Selection Process

A full-strength PESB panel, including two new members, interviewed 12 candidates each for both positions.

Mishra will succeed Brijendra Pratap Singh, who moved to NALCO as CMD in January 2025.

Mohapatra replaces Anirban Dasgupta, set to retire on 30 April 2025.

Next Steps

The appointments are subject to regulatory clearances and ACC approval. Once finalized, the new leaders will steer SAIL’s key steel plants toward enhanced operational efficiency and growth.

This marks a strategic leadership transition in India’s steel sector, reinforcing PESB’s role in shaping the future of PSU executives.
