IAS officer Nitin Kareer has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of the state by the Maharashtra government.
State CM Eknath Shinde took the decision following the rejection of extension in service for the present Chief Secretary Manoj Sainik. In case, extension is not given, Nitin Kareer is going to remain on this post for the next three moths till March 31, 2024.
Though the date of retirement for IAS Nitin Kareer is on March 31, but during this time finding a way for Maratha reservation may prove to be a big challenge.
A 1988 batch IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre, Nitin Kareer is currently Additional Chief Secretary (Finance). Replacing senior bureaucrat Manoj Saunik, Kareer took charge on the evening of 31 December.
The state government has selected Kareer as the new Maharashtra Chief Secretary but his remaining tenure is for three months. He is to retire on 31 March 2024.
