The Union Minister of Road Transport, Highways & Shipping Shri Nitin Gadkari has convened a Chief Ministers’ conference of eight Left-Wing Extremism ( LWE) affected States on January 13 at Raipur. The conference has been convened in order to resolve the bottlenecks in speedy implementation of road works being executed through the State PWD’s.
The conference is expected to be attended by CMs of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Bihar and PWD Ministers of other States. The conference would also be attended by senior officials of Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Ministry of Home Affairs, State PWD, CRPF, BSF and other organisations.
The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways had taken up improvement of road connectivity in the 34 severely LWE affected districts covering a total length of 5477km length. Its Road Requirement Plan (RRP) covers eight states including Telangana, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Uttar Pradesh . Out of 5469km length sanctioned, works for 4908km length were awarded. As on date, 3299 km length (67%) has been completed incurring an expenditure of Rs. 4374 Crore under this plan.
