New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday upheld its decision on the death sentence of three of the four convicts in the brutal 2012 Nirbhaya gang-rape case.
Dismissing the review pleas filed by the convicts, the apex court said, there is no question of reopening the case or reconsidering the 2017 verdict.
A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Dipak Misra, delivered its verdict on the petitions filed by Mukesh (29), Pawan Gupta (22) and Vinay Sharma (23).
Thanking the apex court’s decision, victim Nirbhaya’s mother said, they have got justice again.
Describing the verdict as “unfortunate”, convict Mukesh Singh’s lawyer said, “We can’t do anything more. This is unfortunate. It is the bad luck of Mukesh (Singh) and he has to suffer through it.”
The Supreme Court on May 5 last year had upheld the verdict of the Delhi High Court and the trial court sentencing the four men to death in the horrifying gang-rape and murder of a 23 year old paramedical student on December 16, 2012 in the national capital.
