According to a report, three top bureaucrats, Ajay Seth, Tuhin Kanta Pandey and Pankaj Jain are among the top three candidates being considered for the apex position.
An inner sources’ report on February 21, says that the next chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is likely to be an experienced bureaucrat, as the tenure of the current chief, Madhabi Puri Buch, concludes this month.
The leading contenders for the position include Economic Affairs Secretary Ajay Seth, Revenue Secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey, and Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Pankaj Jain, the report stated, citing sources.
Additionally, two other candidates, whose identities remain undisclosed, are also in the running.
The Financial Sector Regulatory Appointments Search Committee (FSRASC), chaired by the Cabinet Secretary, will recommend candidates to the Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet, which will make the final decision.
