India Appoints new envoys to Papua New Guinea and Malawi shortly.
In a recent diplomatic reshuffle, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced key appointments of two senior Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officers as High Commissioners to Papua New Guinea and Malawi.
Rajeev Kumar Named High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea
Rajeev Kumar (IFS: 2001), currently serving as Deputy Director General (DDG) at the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea.
An MEA statement confirmed the appointment, stating that Kumar will assume his new role shortly. With over two decades of diplomatic experience, his expertise is expected to bolster India’s engagement with the Pacific Island nation.
Amararam Gujar to Lead India’s Mission in Malawi
Amararam Gujar (IFS: 2008), presently Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Rome, has been appointed as the next High Commissioner to Malawi.
The MEA noted that Gujar will take up his new assignment in the coming weeks. His prior experience in multilateral diplomacy will be instrumental in strengthening India’s ties with the African nation.
Strengthening India’s Global Outreach
These appointments underscore India’s commitment to deepening diplomatic engagement in the Asia-Pacific and African regions, fostering stronger bilateral relations and expanding strategic partnerships.
Both officers are expected to commence their new roles in the near future.
