IAS officer Reny Wilfred is facing new allegations of sexual assault, adding to existing concerns as a previous POCSO case against him remains under a Supreme Court stay.
The Nagaland Police have registered a fresh FIR against Wilfred following multiple complaints from women who alleged sexual assault. The complaints, initially submitted to the Nagaland State Women’s Commission (NSCW) in February, were referred to the police after victim statements were recorded. Nagaland DGP Rupin Sharma confirmed that an investigation is currently in progress.
In light of the developments, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms issued a notification on April 4, relieving Wilfred of his positions as Joint Secretary of Planning and Transformation and the Industrial Development Authority.
This is not Wilfred’s first run-in with such allegations. In 2021, while serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, he was accused of sexually assaulting two minor girls from the Khiamniungan Naga community. A police investigation at the time found prima facie evidence, resulting in a charge sheet under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. However, the Supreme Court stayed the trial in 2023.
The latest case has reignited public concern over the officer’s conduct and accountability within the administrative system.
