A Madhya Pradesh Collector has suspended an employee was found playing cards during office hours.. Three others have been penalized for negligence during surprise inspection.
This happened in Betul, Madhya Pradesh. A government employee in Betul district faced immediate suspension after being caught playing a computer card game during office hours. The incident came to light during a surprise inspection by Collector Narendra Suryavanshi, a 2012-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre.
The inspection, conducted at the office of the Tribal Affairs Department on Friday, revealed the employee engrossed in the card game, completely unaware of the Collector’s presence. Upon discovering the misconduct, Mr. Suryavanshi took swift action, ordering the employee’s suspension on the spot.
In addition, the Collector identified three other staff members exhibiting negligence in their duties. Though not engaged in similar misconduct, their inattentiveness resulted in a directive for salary deductions as a disciplinary measure.
Expressing strong disapproval, Mr. Suryavanshi stressed that government offices are intended for public service, not personal entertainment. He warned that any misuse of office time would attract strict disciplinary action and reiterated the importance of professionalism, efficiency, and accountability in government functioning.
This decisive action has sent a clear message across departments: workplace discipline and dedication to duty are non-negotiable in the delivery of public services.
