High Commissioner Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat has been appointed as new High Commissioner to Turkmenistan.
A career diplomat Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat joined the Indian Foreign Service in the year 1999. A graduate in Political Science (Honours) Bhagat hails from Delhi.
Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat as a High Commissioner began her diplomatic career in the Embassy of India in Moscow in the year 2001 to 2004. She thereafter posted to Embassy of India in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 2004 to 2006. Then as Under Secretary on deputation in the Ministry of Commerce, New Delhi she served from 2006 to 2008.
She was appointed First Secretary in the Embassy of India, Stockholm, Sweden in 2008 till 2011 for Commercial & Economic, Cultural and Information affairs. Then she served Indian Embassy to Moscow, Russia from 2011 to 2014 as Counsellor, Economic & Commercial and Administration and Culture. Following this she served from 2014 to 2017 as the Deputy Chief of Mission in the Embassy of India, Ankara, Turkey.
High Commissioner Bhagat then given responsibility Shanghai Cooperation Organization as India’s first National Coordinator and Joint Secretary (June, 2017 – October, 2019). Then on November 11, 2019 she held position as as High Commissioner of India in Cyprus.
