J&K government reshuffle: Kavinder Gupta becomes new Deputy Chief

Srinagar: Kavinder Gupta on Monday sworn in as the new Deputy Chief Minister following the resignation of Nirmal Singh.

As per the sources, Kavinder Gupta’s name for the post was finalised by BJP president Amit Shah, which was attended by party general secretary and J&K in-charge Ram Madhav, MP and state in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna, and ex Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh.

Pulawana PDP (People’s Democratic Party) MLA Muhammad Khalil Bandh and JP Kathua MLA Rajeev Jasrotia sworn in as ministers in Jammu and Kashmir government amid tight security arrangements.

New faces will be distributed the portfolios later in the day. The PDP will be keeping the finance portfolio.

The swearing-in ceremony of office and secrecy was administered to those being inducted into the council of ministers by J&K governor N N Vohra at the convention centre in Jammu.
