The 1978 batch Indian Foreign Service(IFS) officer, S. Jaishankar has been appointed as Foreign Secretary, replacing Sujata Singh whose tenure has been abruptly “curtailed” by nearly eight months.
Prior to this S. Jaishankar was serving as India’s Ambassador to the USA. Dr Jaishankar’s new posting was announced after a meeting of the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi late Wednesday evening.
