Income Tax department has found huge cash and various items in its raids on IAS officers in Uttar Pradesh. According to the statement released by the Income Tax Department, the details are discussed below.
1. Shri Hriday Shankar Tewari, IAS, House No.282, Eldeco Green, Gomti Nagar, Lucknow:
· Cash of about Rs.1.55 crore has been found & seized from residences of various persons including cash of Rs. 1.21 crore from residence and locker of Shri Tiwari..
· Rs. 20 lakh from Delhi residence of Shri Vinod Goel , Bhatta Owner.
· Rs. 14.40 lakh from residences of staff members posted in DM, Baghpat office.
· Besides, gold jewellery weighing about 2.300 Kg has also been found from residence & locker of Shri Tiwari out of which, 1.300 kg jewellery is seized.
· Besides, one diary has been found from residence of Shri Tiwari wherein, on one page, it is mentioned that after adjustment, balance of Rs.6.04 Crore is lying with one Smt. Nutan Tripathi, some relative of Mrs. Tiwari & resident of Gorakhpur. Here, it is worthwhile to mention that Shri Tiwari has admitted nine properties owned by him & his family members in various cities viz. Lucknow, NOIDA & Nainital out of which, three properties are stated to be co-owned with Smt. Nutan. During search operation at Gorakhpur residence of Smt. Nutan, some immovable property documents in the name of Smt. Nutan & investment of about Rs.1 crore in FDs have been found. From PAN database, it is noticed that Smt. Nutan declares income of only about 3-5 lakh & hence, in view of all the above facts, there is strong probability that Mr Tiwari might have made investment in movable & immovable properties in the name of Mrs. Nutan. The matter regarding sources of all the above investments , actual ownership & probability of applicability of Benami Act is a matter of investigation..
2. Mrs. Mamta Sharma, RTO, Meerut and Mr. Vimal Kumar Sharma, IAS, Addl. CEO, Greater Noida Authority, Address: D166/45 and D166/56,Sector-50,Noida,U.P.
· Cash of about 21 lakh has been found & seized from Meerut residence of one of the staff posted with the RTO .
· Two lockers have been found in the name of Mrs Mamta , which have been put under P.O.
· Total of seven immovable properties have been admitted & declared by Mr. Sharma & his wife in various cities viz. Mainpuri, Nainital, NOIDA & Greater NOIDA.
· Out of these, four properties are stated to be inherited, one gifted by his mother to his son & two acquired through loan & mortgaged with the Banks. Besides, old demonetized currency of 40,000/- & foreign currency valued about Rs. one lakh has been found from the residence.
· The residence of Mrs. Sharma & Mr. Sharma at NOIDA is lavishly constructed with lots of lavish furniture etc. The inventory of the same has been made & the house & furniture etc. will be referred for valuation in due course.
3. Shri Satyendra Kumar Singh, IAS; Special Secretary( Jail Admin & Reforms), Lucknow:
· A search and seizure operation was carried out in the case of Shri Satyendra Kumar Singh, Special Secretary (Jail Administration & Reforms) Government of Uttar Pradesh and his close associate Ms. Shalini Gupta on 24th and 25th May, 2017.
· During the course of search and seizure operation, total of 04 premises were covered u/s 132 in Lucknow and 03 premises were covered in Noida and Greater Noida (02 premises covered u/s 132 and 01 covered u/s 133A of I.T. Act, 1961). Further, verifications were also carried out in Ghaziabad and Varanasi by issuing summons u/s 131 of Income Tax Act, 1961.
· During the course of search, cash amounting to Rs.37.5 Lakh was found and seized.
· There is one locker in the name of Ms. Shalini Gupta which has been sealed.
· There is one property in the name of Shri Shekhar S/o Shri Satyendra Kumar Singh the purchase consideration of which in the registry has been shown at Rs.1.40 Crore.
· During the course of search, papers of payment of on-money of Rs.1.45 crore has also been found and seized.
· There is one property in Ghaziabad in the name of Shri Pankaj Singh brother-in-law of the assessee Shri Satyendra Kumar Singh which was purchased for around Rs.30 Lakh.
· There is one property in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow in the name of his close associate Ms. Shalini Gupta which has been shown to have been purchased for Rs.60 Lakh. The returns of income filed by these persons do not justify such big investments.
· Further, during the course of search and seizure proceedings they cannot explain satisfactorily the sources of investment. The 03 properties as mentioned above appear to be Benami Properties. However, the matter is being investigated. The search operation is going to be concluded.
