Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh, Prabodh Saxena who is a 1990 batch IAS officer, was expected to retire on March 31. However, in a surprising turn of events, he has been granted a six-month extension.
A request for his extension was sent to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), and by late evening, the proposal was approved in Delhi. As a result, Saxena will continue in his role for another six months.
His departure had been widely anticipated, with the Himachal IAS Officers Association even organizing a farewell dinner for him on Friday night. However, during the event, Saxena unexpectedly announced his extension, taking many attendees by surprise.
Earlier in the evening, a cap and muffler, presented as a farewell gift following a state cabinet meeting, were quickly returned upon confirmation of his extended tenure.
Reports suggest that the Union Department of Personnel and Training issued the extension letter earlier on Friday. Saxena had also applied for the position of RERA Chairman, adding to speculation about his retirement before the extension was granted.
