The government is mulling the creation of some sort of a centralized mechanism to check and ratify One Rank One Pension (OROP) of military veterans to ensure there are no discrepancies or anomalies in the amounts disbursed to them by their banks. This comes after it was found that Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal, who committed suicide on Tuesday, was receiving around Rs 3,000 less than what he was OROP entitled to after his 30 years and nine months of service. He was getting a pension of around Rs 25,000 per month instead of Rs 28,000.
