Fresh 40,000 Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours in India

As many as 40,000 fresh cases of Covid-19 in India after four months. In the last 24 hours 154 deaths took the total number fatalities to 1,59,370 so far in India. Maharashtra, Punjab, Kerala, Karnataka and Gujarat are the five states that have recorded the highest single-day surge since yesterday, government data shows. The increase in coronavirus cases comes ahead of assembly elections in four states – Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Kerala – and one union territory – Puducherry – that begin next week.
