The Central Government has appointed five new Special Directors in the ED, filling all top posts.

In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, the Union Government on Monday appointed five new Special Directors to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), completing all sanctioned top-level positions in the agency.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) cleared the promotions of:

  • Viplav Kumar Choudhry (1997-batch IPS, AGMUT cadre)

  • Four senior IRS officers:

    • T Sankar (2003 batch, IRS-IT)

    • N Padmanaban (2005 batch, IRS-IT)

    • Rajnish Dev Barman (1999 batch, IRS-IT)

    • Manu Tentiwal (2003 batch, IRS-IT)

These officers will now lead key ED regional offices in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Chandigarh, as well as specialized units at the Delhi headquarters. Prior to this, the ED had only three officers at the Special Director rank.

Strengthening ED’s Leadership

With these appointments, all eight sanctioned Special Director posts in the ED are now filled. The new appointees will report directly to ED Director Rahul Navin (1993-batch IRS) and oversee high-profile investigations under:

  • Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA)

  • Fugitive Economic Offenders Act (FEOA)

  • Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA)

This move is expected to enhance the ED’s operational efficiency in tackling financial crimes and economic offenses across India.
