Crackdown of agencies on erring bureaucrats is the top news today in the power corridors.
ED and IT Crackdown has been witnessed on top bureaucrats lately in a quick succession. The raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate and Income Tax department targeted three erring officers.
Out of the two, one officer belongs to the Indian Police Services whereas the other one is from Indian Administrative Services and a former Indian Foreign Services officer,
Capturing the imagination of people in the power corridors, a closure report has also been filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation against an ex-IPS officer.
The residences of Pradeep Sharma, former Mumbai Police officer and Nirmal Deshmukh, the retired IAS officer (1997: MH) have been searched by IT department yesterday on Thursday. The case is reportedly related to tax evasion.
A chargesheet has also been filed in another case by the CBI on Thursday February 08, 2024. The chargesheet was against retired Haryana cadre IAS officer ML Tayal (1976 batch) including his wife and son. This was in connection with a disproportionate assets case registered in the year 2017.
In another significant raid by the ED, the residences of ex-Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Kishand Chand in Haridwar were searched on Wednesday February 07, 2024. These raids were in connection with alleged illegal constructions and felling of trees in the Corbett Tiger Reserve.
On the other hand, a closure report in one of the five criminal cases against former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh (IPS: 1988: MH) has been filed by the CBI. The closure report was presented before Chief Judicial Magistrate, Thane last month on January 18, 2024. As per the report, except oral statements by Sharad Agarwal (the complainant) , there was no evidence to corroborate allegations.
