Suspended police officer Aditya Kumar (IPS: 2011: BR) finally surrendered in a Patna court on December 5, 2023. He has now been sent to jail.
Post suspension from service in a case of disproportionate assets, Aditya Kumar was absconding for more than a year. He was denied bail by the Supreme Court and asked to surrender within 14 days ending on December 6. The accusation of impersonating the Chief Justice of Patna High Court in a case related to cheating, resulted in his suspension.
The absconding IPS officer was being searched by Bihar Police for a long time. The case was registered against him in the Economic Offences Unit in October 2022 after which Aditya Kumar was suspended from the service. There are several cases lodged against him under sections 387, 420, 353, 419, 467, 120B, 66 C & D and 468 of the IPC.
The State’s Economic Offences Unit had lodged a case of disproportionate assets of ₹1.37 crore against Aditya and 4 others earlier in 2022 on on the charges of impersonation, cheating, along with extortion and other offenses.
In accordance with the FIR, the suspects made a telephone call to the Director General of Bihar Police posing as the Chief Justice of Patna High Court. They asked him to close a case against Aditya Kumar. This was the case where he, as SSP, Gaya, had been accused of conspiring with the liquor syndicate in the dry State of Bihar.
