There is growing speculation that the Telangana government is preparing for a major reshuffle in the IPS ranks.
Two senior IPS officers from the Telangana cadre — Ms. Charu Sinha (1996 batch) and Mr. Akun Sabharwal (2001 batch) — have returned to the state after completing over six years each on Central deputation. Both officers have formally reported to the state government and are currently awaiting new assignments.
Sources suggest that a significant reshuffle is on the horizon, potentially affecting officers at the DIG, IG, and ADGP levels. It is widely expected that Ms. Sinha and Mr. Sabharwal will be entrusted with key responsibilities in the new administrative setup.
Ms. Charu Sinha made history as the first woman Inspector General of the CRPF Southern Sector and also held critical roles in the Kashmir sector. Mr. Akun Sabharwal, who last served as IG in the ITBP, is remembered for his tenure as Director of Enforcement and Vigilance in the Excise Department, where he investigated a high-profile drug case involving members of the Telugu film industry.
The state government has reportedly sought intelligence inputs on several IPS officers, assessing their performance and approach to public service. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has also directed IAS and IPS officers to engage more proactively with citizens and address their concerns efficiently.
Additionally, there are indications that some district SPs may be transferred due to underperformance, as the government looks to enhance administrative effectiveness. Meanwhile, a few IPS officers are seeking Central deputation, subject to government clearance.
