CAT rejects IAS officer A. Vani Prasad’s plea has been rejected for Telangana cadre allocation.
The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), Hyderabad Bench, has dismissed the petition filed by senior IAS officer A. Vani Prasad, who sought reassignment to the Telangana cadre. The officer, from the 1995 batch and nearing retirement with just two years of service remaining, had challenged the Department of Personnel and Training’s (DoPT) recent decision to allocate her to the Andhra Pradesh cadre.
Prasad argued that her roots and education are in Hyderabad, highlighting a long-standing personal association with the Telangana region, though she was born in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. However, the tribunal ruled that cadre allocations are made based on administrative considerations and public interest, rather than personal preferences.
The officer’s reassignment is part of the broader and ongoing cadre distribution process following the bifurcation of the erstwhile unified Andhra Pradesh into the separate states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The CAT ruling underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining administrative balance and efficiency between the two states in line with post-bifurcation resource and personnel restructuring.
