Bengaluru: BJP leader BS Yeddyurappa on Thursday was sworn in as Karnataka’s Chief Minister.
Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala administered the oath of office to the Chief Minister at Raj Bhavan. Yeddyurappa took over the chief ministerial reins for the second time.
Earlier the Supreme Court heard a petition filed by Congress and Janata Dal (JDS) against Governor Vajubhai Vala’s decision.
On Wednesday midnight, Vala invited Yeddyurappa to form the government in the state, instigating the Congress to hold protests against the governor’s decision. But the apex court permitted Yeddyurappa to take oath as the chief minister.
Heavy Police force was deployed near road leading to Raj Bhavan to avoid any violence in the swearing-in ceremony.
The Supreme Court will hear the Congress’ plea at 10.30 am on Friday. Yeddyurappa has been given 15 days to prove his majority in the state assembly.
Soon after Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa took oath, the agitated Congress MLAs left the Eagleton resort to hold dharnas outside the Vidhan Soudha.
