Bihar: 17 IPS Officers Transferred, Pankaj Darad Appointed ADG, ATS; Rakesh Rathi to Lead Spl Branch

Bihar Government has shifted a total number of 17 IPS Officers where Pankaj Darad has been appointed ADG, ATS and Rakesh Rathi is going to lead Special Branch.

In a major administrative reshuffle, the Bihar Government under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has transferred 17 IPS officers across crucial positions, aiming to enhance law and order, strengthen surveillance, and improve training and enforcement across the state.

Key Appointments:

  • Pankaj Kumar Darad (IPS, 1995 batch) has been appointed as Additional Director General (ADG), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). He will continue to hold additional charges as ADG (Law & Order) and Special Surveillance Department, underscoring the government’s confidence in his leadership during critical times.

  • Dr. Amit Kumar Jain (IPS, 1996 batch), currently serving as ADG, CID (Weaker Sections), will now also oversee ADG, Prohibition, reinforcing the state’s ongoing crackdown on illicit liquor trade.

  • Rakesh Rathi (IPS, 2002 batch), who previously led the Cyber Crime Unit as IG, Economic Offences Unit (EOU), has been appointed as Inspector General (IG), Special Branch, Patna.

Other Notable Transfers:

  • Ranjit Kumar Mishra has been given additional charge of IG (Training), alongside his current responsibilities with the State Armed Forces (SAF).

  • Babu Ram takes over as Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Bihar SAF (North) in Muzaffarpur.

  • Tauheed Pervez has been appointed as DIG, CID.

  • Rajendra Kumar Bhil becomes DIG (Personnel).

  • Rajiv Mishra receives an additional role as DIG, Prohibition.

Strategic Posting in Bodhgaya:

  • At the commandant level, Deepak Ranjan (IPS, 2012 batch) will now lead both BSAP-3 and BSAP-17, units based in Bodhgaya, a location of strategic, historical, and religious importance.

This reshuffle is part of the state government’s broader effort to realign the police leadership with evolving challenges in crime prevention, cyber security, and social enforcement, ensuring greater effectiveness in the delivery of justice and public safety.
