Hyderabad: Several parts of Andhra Pradesh witnessed a bandh on Monday following a day-long shutdown called by Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samithi (the people’s forum to fight for special status) in demand for the special status category to the state.
Jaganmohan Reddy led YSR Congress, the CPI, the CPM, the Congress and the Jana Sena have backed the shutdown call, but the ruling Telugu Desam Party has avoided extending its hand for the strike. Even the BJP has not supported the shutdown.
Schools, colleges and business establishment remained closed, vehicles, including buses belonging to Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) went off the roads in many parts of the state.
Talking to reporters a Sadhna Samithi activist said the ‘bandh’ was called in protest against the Centre’s refusal to grant special status.
