Muzaffar Hussain Baig, MP and a senior leader of the ruling PDP in Jammu and Kashmir, today sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention on providing foodgrains to those affected by floods in the state, saying that an agreement between his party and BJP on the issue appeared to be “merely a piece of paper”.
Baig was reacting to the reply given by Union Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan to his question in the Lok Sabha as to whether the state government had requested the centre to allocate foodgrains at a no-profit-no-loss basis for both the above and below poverty line beneficiaries in view of the huge losses suffered by them due to repeated floods.
Paswan told him that during the year 2014-15, J and K Government had requested for additional foodgrains at subsidised rates for flood-affected people.
