Senior IPS officer Arun Sarangi has been appointed acting Director General of Police, Odisha.
The government’s order has come to light one day prior to incumbent Director General of Police, Sunil Kumar Bansal’s retirement on December 31, 2023.
Lately Odisha government appointed IPS Arun Kumar Sarangi as the acting DGP of the state. Spl. Director General of Police and Director of Biju Patnaik State Police Academy (BPSPA), Sarangi is allowed to continue with additional charge of DGP until a regular DGP is sent to join. This is what says a notification issued by the Home Department.
As per the sources, the government has appointed an acting DGP since the UPSC is yet to convene a meeting for the selection of the names of three probable candidates.
After the state government receives the 3 IPS officers’ name from the Union Public Service Commission, it is going to select one of them as the DGP of the state. The committee of the UPSC hasn’t notified the date of the meeting yet, say the sources.
