The Supreme Court examines CAG appointment seeking Centre’s response on it.

The Supreme Court of India on Monday issued a notice to the Centre, requesting its response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL), which challenges the appointment process of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). The PIL has brought the selection procedure under judicial scrutiny.

The petition advocates for a more transparent and impartial selection process, proposing that the President of India appoint the CAG in consultation with an independent selection committee comprising the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition, and the Chief Justice of India.
