The Uttarakhand government, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, has appointed 1992-batch IAS officer Anand Vardhan as the new Chief Secretary, effective April 1, 2025.
He will succeed 1988-batch IAS officer Radha Raturi, whose extended tenure as Chief Secretary concludes on March 31. Ms. Raturi has applied for the position of Chief Information Commissioner, with the government expected to announce a new appointment in April. She is considered a strong contender for the role.
Currently serving as Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Mr. Vardhan is the most senior officer in the state’s IAS cadre after Ms. Raturi.
An official order from the Dhami government confirmed Vardhan’s appointment, stating, “In the interest of work, the government has decided to appoint you (Anand Vardhan) as Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand from April 1, 2025.”
