The Centre issues a legal notice to three Bollywood actors over misleading gutka ads. The advert shows Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn endorsing viewers to consume gutkha in style.
Considering the advert a misleading one, the notice issued to Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn by the Centre is in support of people’s health and welfare.
In a case of alleged misleading advertisements, the notice has also been issued against the gutkha manufacturing companies along with the three actors.
Earlier, analyzing the merit of the PIL against several actors for such ‘unhealthy’ advertisements, the Allahabad High Court has come out with 2 directions to the Centre.
The first out of the two directions, gives a guideline in order to frame to seize ‘Padma’ awards conferred to these actors. It also directs the government to file a case against the actors as well as tobacco companies.
The second direction is for a fine of Rs 50 lakh to be imposed on the and the gutkha companies and the actors.
