Srinagar: Security forces have adopted new tactics to eliminate the masterminds behind the sudden increase in terror and violence in Jammu and Kashmir.
The strategy of the security forces is to reach the root cause and to the cut the “umbilical cord” which is instrumental in radicalising youth and pushing them to jihad, officials said.
Security forces have killed over 70 terrorists in past seven months in Kashmir. Now, it has become difficult for the Army to counter terrorists as they have started seeking refuge in populated areas near villages and towns.
The police and the security forces are focussing on “catching them alive” and encouraging them to return to their families.
“A 15 or 16-year-old boy can’t be brainwashed to the extent that he would like to be killed in a gunfight. There has to be a counter-narrative,” a senior official said.
“My director general of police (S P Vaid) has also appealed to misguided youths and so I am asking them to return to their families,” said Inspector General of Police (Kashmir range) Swayam Prakash Pani.
