Lucknow : The SP and the BSP will contest the 2019 parliamentary elections in Uttar Pradesh jointly, party patriarch Mulayam Singh said this while addressing a rally in Mainpuri on Wednesday.
Former SP chief said, “if the ticket distribution is correct, this alliance can’t be defeated.
It was in 1993, the two parties had stitched together their alliance which went on to form a government in UP. But just two years after, Mayawati pulled off support from the alliance government, leading to its premature death.
Angered by the development, some SP MLAs and MPs descended on the state guest house in Lucknow which was occupied by Mayawati and other BSP leaders and they misbehaved with them, while some of BSP MLAs were allegedly taken forcibly to Mulayam Singh Yadav’s residence and they were forced into signing letters extending support to the SP leader.
However, politics makes strange bedfellows. The BSP supported the SP for the Phulpur and the Gorakhpur Lok Sabha by-polls and defeated the BJP candidates. This buoyed the mood of workers of both regional parties. The SP patriarch’s statement that the two would make an unbeatable alliance in UP, has sent a message across the country that they would contest the 2019 Lok Sabha polls jointly.
