In government of India, 5 Secretary level posts are presently vacant and 4 posts of same level are going to be vacant by end of this month.
Department of Aayush which has the responsibility to organise Yoga day on June 21 has no Secretary. This position is vacant since retirement of Ajit M Sharan ( IAS:79: HY) on 31 March this year. It may be noted that there are 5 departments which are headless for last four months and next 4 are in queue to be vacant till end of this month.
Telecom department is vacant since 1 April on the other hand, Inter state council secretariat has been running headlesss since 1 february following retirement of Naini jayaseelan ( IAS: 80: UT), presently this charge is temporarily with Ms. Sanjeevani Kutty ( Secretary, Border management, MHA)
The most important ministry of road transport and highways is also vacant after Sanjay Mitra appointed Defence Secretary on 10th May. Secretary posts in Department of Economic affairs and Chemicals and petro chemicals are vacant following the extended tenure of Shaktikanta Das ( IAS: 80: TN) and supernuation of AK bishnoi ( IAS: 82:UP)
In addition, 4 more Secretary level posts are going to be vacant as Power Secretary PK Pujary, DOPT Secretary BP Sharma, MSME Secretary KK Jalan, Secretary National commission for minorities, Amarendra Sinha is going to retire on 30th June.
