Department of Personnel and Training issued an order which said that the President is pleased to direct that Rita Singh, a 1997 batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, is deemed to have resigned from the Indian Administrative Service with effect from May 31, 2007 being on unauthorised leave for at least over an year.
She has been deemed resigned for being absent without authorisation for a period exceeding one year from the date of expiry of sanctioned leave or permission, as per the order. Singh has been on official leave since April 22, 2003, according to official records. An IAS, IPS and IFS officer can lose his or her job for overstaying on foreign assignments for more than a month or for being on unauthorised leave, as per the new rules formed by the government.
