The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday arrested a Superintending Engineer Vinod Kumar Asol of CPWD for demanding and accepting Rs 33 lakh bribe. CBI had registered a case u/s 7 & 12 of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 on the allegations that the Superintendent Engineer, CPWD, Imphal was demanding a bribe of Rs.50 Lacs from the company for clearing the bills, release of mobilization advance & payment for the construction & work of a multipurpose building worth Rs. 210 Crores (approx) in National Information Technology, Imphal (Manipur).
The first instalment of Rs.17.5 Lacs (approx) had earlier been allegedly taken by the said Superintendent Engineer of CPWD.Rs.19,23,200/- (approx) has been recovered from the Guest House at Gurgaon where the Director (Project) was staying.CBI teams carried out raids at 8 places in Delhi, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Dehradun, Lucknow, Imphal and Vishakhapatnam which led to recovery of a large number of incriminating document.
