5 convicted in 2013 Bodh Gaya serial blasts

Patna: The Patna court on Friday convicted all the five accused in the 2013 Bodh Gaya serial bomb blasts.

Five people, including two Buddhist monks, were injured in the blasts.

Judge Manoj Kumar convicted Haider Ali, Imtiaz Ansari, Umar Siddiqui, Azharuddin Quraishi and Mujibullah Ansari for planting bombs around the Buddhist temple in Bodh Gaya on July 7, 2013.

Among the five accused, Umar Siddiqui and Azharuddin Quraishi are natives of Chhattisgarh and the rest of the accused belong to Jharkhand, while Haider Ali is said to be the mastermind of blasts.

A series of nine bombs exploded around Mahabodhi temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Bodh Gaya within 30 minutes.

Three other devices were defused by bomb-disposal squads at a number of locations in Gaya.

The quantum of punishment is likely to be announced on May 31, the next date of hearing.
